Welcome to AI as a Creative and Strategic Partner—Funmentum™ Style!🎉🎉🎉
Our new series on harnessing Generative AI like Chat GPT, Copilot, Gemini, etc. for both fun and breakthrough results. Many people use GenAI for low level tasks like summarizing meeting notes, writing simple emails, researching industry trends, etc.
This series is focused on the opposite—Gen AI is strongest as a high level thought partner. Not replacing you or doing your work in an average/generic way, rather pushing your thinking as a strategic challenger, creative muse, and feedback focuser. All to create higher quality work, which is approved faster, with less and time/effort. And it’s a lot of fun!
Make sure to subscribe and follow along—new posts every Friday at 5am PT/8am ET for the next 18 weeks!
Chapter 1 of 4: Mindset is the Magic
For the first 5 posts, we’ll focus on the right mindset for working with AI. Namely, way more context and back and forth iteration than you expect.
#2: Upload It, Expand It
Building on the “Dear Diary” concept of oversharing, let’s go even further: upload or paste entire documents so the AI sees the full picture.
Whether it’s your 20-slide pitch deck or a big research report, feeding the AI large chunks of text gives it a broader understanding of what you’re working on. Do you have a Google folder somewhere with supporting documents?
Feed that stuff into it. With Chat GPT it looks like this:
And then:
Of course if you are working with confidential information, then your company should have a GenAI tool internally approved, or you can take measures like asking it to not train on your data. If your company wants you to use GenAI at work (which they should!) there needs to be some solution so that you can actually use it with your real work.
When you feed in all of your relevant docs to the machine, you are basically giving it a super-charged power-up. Without all of that extra context, its answers are often just the most basic amalgamation of stuff from the internet. Now it’s hyper relevant to your work.
🧠🔓You can ask GenAI for things like…
Write up the 3 most important takeaways from each document.
Here’s all of my out loud thoughts on the proposal I need to create. Can you take all of this thinking, and drawing upon all of the supporting documents I uploaded, create a rough draft of my full proposal?
I have a WIP version of my proposal now, please help me find the most relevant quotes or data points from each document to buttress my points.
I’ve uploaded a WIP version of my Q1 presentation. Please review it against our past three quarterly decks that I uploaded and highlight any missing data or inconsistent narrative threads.
I’ve uploaded my entire presentation, which is titled “WIP Preso”. Can you please review that against the 4 other documents I uploaded, and give me feedback? Is there a more compelling story? Can you suggest 2 new directions or improvements I might not have considered?
The difference is dramatic—rather than random, generic feedback, you get context-based insights to make your work stronger. You’re almost creating a little mini world of the model that is now yours, and centered on what’s most important for your project.
Remember—upload it, expand it.
💡That’s your one thing for this week!
